Athletic Training Services

Victoria Van Alstine-Tauer, MS, LAT, ATC, is a certified athletic trainer at the Springfield Shriners Hospital. She graduated magna cum laude from Westfield State University with a Bachelor  of Science in athletic training, and earned a master's degree in exercise and sport studies from Smith College. While working on her MS, she worked as a teaching  assistant and graduate assistant athletic trainer primarily with field hockey, basketball and lacrosse .

Victoria is a certified CPR/ AED instructor and recently has become certified in RockBlades® and BladesAdvanced®, a manual therapy technique partnered with RockTape®.

From 2018-2019, Victoria worked as a per diem athletic trainer providing services for Hampden Charter School, Springfield Tech Community College, Amherst College, Smith College, Hampshire College, Mount Holyoke College and UMass Amherst. During the summer months, Victoria has worked sports camps and clinics all over the state of Massachusetts.

In conjunction with Shriners Hospitals for Children - Springfield, Victoria is working at Roots Athletic Center in Westfield, Massachusetts, as an athletic trainer, in addition to assisting with special events in the sports health and medicine program.

What is an athletic trainer?

Athletic Trainers are health care professionals who provide in-depth care for sport-related wellness. Not only do they act as first responders for an injury or medical emergency during sport practices and games, but can also provide injury prevention and rehabilitation strategies. Additionally, Athletic Trainers are able to promote wellness through education and sport-specific conditioning.

What services does an athletic trainer provide?

-       Rehabilitation equipment – weights, exercise bands, foam roller, and stretch band
